Your dog is not just a pet. Your dog is not just an animal. Your dog is a bona FIDO member of the family!! So of course your dog needs to dress the part – right?
Well thanks to the internet and the many online boutiques you can dress your dog for every occasion from the comfort of your own home. No more “granny’ knitted sweaters for your sophisticated canine!! But is dressing up your dog just something that you like to do? Is there any benefit to your dog? It all depends on why you bought the clothes!!
A Dog Coat can be a very useful item of clothing for your dog. It can keep him warm in the cold weather, dry in the wet weather and can protect him from infections in the same way that our clothes protect us. It can also keep him clean which may be especially useful after a romp in the park on a wet winter’s day. Just take the coat off after it’s dirty and keep most of the dirt contained. Then you can let your clean(ish) dog into the car which helps keep the car cleaner. Dog coats come in many different styles and colors so pick the coat that’s most appropriate for its use. And of course what dog would be seen out without the matching doggie hat??
Just like people wear, you can get ‘designer’ labels for your dog to make him feel like a million dollars, (and it probably costs that too). Many celebrities always have their dogs dressed in the latest doggie fashion. A practice that Paris Hilton with Tinkerbell has raised to an art form, or so it seems!
Apart from coats and sweaters other useful dog clothing items include dog t-shirts and dog sunglasses. These can look cute but they do also serve to help protect your pet. The sunglasses can protect him from UVA and UVB rays and the t-shirt helps protect his skin. Dogs can develop skin cancer the same way that people can and this is one of the main cancers in dogs. And you thought it was just to make Fido look cute!!
As you can see, getting clothing for your dog is not just vanity on your part, although it is fun dressing up your dog. It can also play a vital role in keeping your dog healthy and happy. And if you do get the urge to step out on the wild side – get your dog some formal wear or a great costume for Halloween – go on have fun and buy your dog some great clothing today!!

petsmart but don’t buy hamsters or fish or any pets from there. they get them from pets mills.
they don’t need sweaters in the fall if their fur is long and thick they have a layer of fur. but when it gets very cold, they need one. but smaller and short haired dogs may need sweaters in fall and heavy ones in winter.
Here is a link that has some canadian sites listed that sell doggie apparell. Just scroll down the page.

i have 3 dogs, all are "working dogs", …doing pet therapy.
I buy all of their outfits in department store, in the BABY DEPARTMENT!…..my littlest dog takes "3 months" old,..my largest dog wears a "4T"…
I've saved a lot of money this way, ..as they wear many outfits….so you can get them at walmart….or wherever, so much cheaper than actual "dog outfits"…and they look adorable, i get many compliments.
I just bought my shih tzu a black velvet tuxedo vest….in the baby department at wall mart last week, was about 3 dollars, ..at the pets store , ..outfits are around 20 bucks a peice!….good luck to you.
Here's a FREE dog pattern. It would be much cuter if you added a simple collar.

i totatlly agree man ok this is the thin im getting a dog and its in decmeber when im getting it so where do u go to buy dog cltohes????? if anyone kno plz tell me im alittle new to this whole pet thing lol
I would agree that smaller dogs from warmer climes such as chihuahuas probably do need some extra protection in the colder weather. On larger dogs though, it’s an extravagance.
dogs need this kind of stuff for really cold weather. i have a dachshund and it is always cold until i put something on her.
It probably has something to do with location. I'm in Maryland, and they have all season apparel at the petsmart near me. They have raincoats, performance fleece, shirts and sweaters. Ask a store associate or call the corporate headquarters.
target sells them and some times old navy carries stuff as well
fast forward to 0:59 and save yourself the grief.
Since dogs, unlike kids, do not care about the latest fashion, see if the local SPCA has a thrift shop.
My Yorkie's have an assortment of sweat-shirts, jackets, sweaters, and rain and hooded snow gear for the cold of late fall until the spring time. I have these items as they do not have an undercoat for protection and they are prone to bronchial/pneumonia problems. Not to mention that they are simply cold! I purchases them all over. Good old Wal-Mart has them for $5 up, Petsmart has great sales at end of season, Tuesday Morning has a pet selection; lot's of it on clearance, too. Many pet-shops carry a complete line of clothing, and there are many boutiques devoted to accessories and clothing for dogs. There are thousands of dog clothes for sale on line. That is fun…looking at all of the wonderful selections. I do not dress them up unless the weather calls for it, I have enough laundry to do without adding more. Oh, not to mention a good reason for protecting the long haired dog's coats is, more drying, brushing, and trying to get ice-balls out of the underarm and belly area. I tried boots for the icy times, but they either kicked or bit them off! Happy Shopping, Angel Wolf 13
